As part of a three-year outlook and strategic plan, the Commission of Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs has identified
five core policy areas to guide the work of the Commission - in concert with
the Office of Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs. These key areas of focus
will also be the basis for recommendations to the governor, elected officials and
community engagement.
Of the five core areas, the Commission
has placed the highest priority on the following: 1) Voter Engagement; 2)
Economic & Workforce Development; and 3) Healthcare.

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for
the Elderly (PACE) is a specialized managed care program that provides
preventive care, primary care, social services, therapeutic recreation, acute
and long-term care services. The goal of this program is to protect and improve the health, quality of life, as well as allow an individual to remain living at home. More information about the program in this PACE Information Booklet.
If you are already a member enrolled with PACE,
please contact your PACE provider before making any changes to your plan. Your PACE provider will assist you with
dis-enrolling with PACE and enrolling with the IA Health Link Managed Care
program.
PACE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Are 55 years of age or older
- Reside in a county where PACE is
provided
- Live in a community home (at time of
initial PACE approval)
- Have Medicaid, dual Medicaid/Medicare or
Medicare eligibility
- Meet the medical supports for nursing
facility level of care

Jefferson Award Recipient: Hong Cuc Thi
Nguyen of Sioux City, Iowa

Born in Vietnam, Hong Cuc came to the US in 1981, flying
from Malaysia to Colorado, where she would later land a job at the University
of Iowa and then, move to Sioux City. Hong Cuc fell in love with the community
and from 1991 to her retirement in 1999, she worked at the Mary J. Treglia
Community House, as a liaison to hundreds of people in the Vietnamese
community.
