CACFP Administrative Manual Updates

As you know, keeping up with changes in CACFP is a moving target.  The CACFP Administrative Manual (seventh edition), published this summer and mailed to organizations, has been updated. Updated chapters (1, 2, 5, and Appendix C) will soon be posted in IowaCNP Download Forms by chapter, and are currently available within the Iowa CACFP Steps to Success online workshop modules. Please print the updated chapters and replace them in your manual. The chapters are dated to distinguish them from prior versions.

Highlighted Changes:

Chapter 1 - includes changes in staff contact information and updated chapter outline.

Chapter 2 - the information about medical diet modification requests; the Diet Modification Request Form; 1-18 child meal pattern; and the Handy Guide to Creditable Foods have been updated.  Note: the serving size for tofu at snack was incorrect on the meal pattern chart.

Appendix C - the chapter outline and Infant Reimbursable Foods list have been updated. Note: Graham crackers without honey and animal crackers are reimbursable for infants.

Chapter 5 - the Cost Claim Details Monthly Worksheet has been revised for ease of use. The form is available in fillable pdf that auto-calculates.  It is located in Module 7 of the online Steps to Success course under "Printable Forms". It will soon be added to IowaCNP Download Forms - Form ID CACFP060.

The updated Handy Guide to Creditable Foods, Infant Reimbursable Foods List, and Diet Modification Request Form are available in IowaCNP Download Forms as individual documents, within their respective manual chapter, and in the Iowa CACFP Steps to Success online modules under "Printable Forms".

Iowa Learning Online Update: An enrollment key is no longer required to complete the CACFP Steps to Success or CACFP Wellness Modules.  Click here to login or create an account for the first time.

Crediting Cheese in the CACFP has always been challenging and confusing. Serving sizes differ for different types of cheese and some cheese is not creditable. A Cheese Crediting Chart showing creditable and non-creditable cheese, serving sizes, and photos of actual products will be posted in Download Forms - Form ID CACFPMP29.  Thanks to Libby Underwood at Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) for assisting with the development of this resource.
