Memo: Modifications to Accommodate Disabilities in the CACFP and SFSP

CACFP 14-2017
Issued: June 22, 2017
This memo outlines the requirements to provide reasonable meal modifications to accommodate participants with disabilities. Organizations are encouraged to focus less on whether or not a participant has a disability, but on how can everyone work collaboratively to ensure an equal opportunity to participate in the Program. Organizations may choose to accommodate requests related to a disability that are are not supported by a medical statement if the required modifications can be accomplished within the meal pattern. These meals are reimbursable.  Organizations are encouraged to develop procedures to request diet modifications, track meal modifications, provide a written decision, and train staff. Organizations that employ 15 or more individuals must designate at least one person to coordinate compliance with disability requirements and establish grievance procedures to resolve complaints.

USDA guidance memos are posted on the USDA policy website.

New CACFP Recipes Using Summer Produce

These USDA recipes are chef-developed and kid approved.  The recipes are planned for or 6 (family), 25, or 50 and credited for the new meal pattern.  Click here  for the new recipes.

State Auditors

We have contracted again this year with State auditors to conduct additional reviews at selected CACFP organizations (mostly for-profit). If your organization is selected for review, you may be contacted by their office in the next few weeks. The documents they will review are similar to the records Bureau of Nutrition consultants look at on a regular CACFP review. If you are contacted, please coordinate with them to schedule and conduct the audit.
