On March 21st, IWCC’s Southwest Iowa Workplace Connection partnered with Western Iowa Conference schools to host the second annual 10th Grade Career Forum on IWCC’s Council Bluffs campus.

The goal of the event was to educate and inform students about various career pathways, and build connections between high school course selection and post-secondary options.  The morning kicked off with a keynote address by Steve Irvin, Student Success Advisor with Iowa College Access Network.  Following the keynote, students had the opportunity to attend three career breakout sessions, choosing from a selection of 16 career clusters.  Breakout sessions were led by professionals from 32 area employers.  Speakers shared information and expertise on their career pathway, educational requirements and soft skills necessary for employment.

The 10th Grade Career Forum is a key part of helping students prepare for post-secondary success by increasing awareness about career opportunities.   Event attendees included 10th grade students from AHSTW, Audubon, Griswold, Logan-Magnolia, Missouri Valley,  Riverside, Treynor, Tri-Center and Underwood school districts.
