Header Gov. proclamation CTE Month                      MESSAGE FROM LISA

I hope everyone enjoyed a great CTE Month!  We have so many exciting things happening with CTE in Iowa and those of you who were at CTE Day at the Capitol hopefully got to see that!  Thanks to Iowa ACTE Executive Director Sandy Miller for organizing the day AND helping get the CTE month proclamation signed by the governor!  We had a lot of FCS people involved in exhibits and visits that included FCCLA, as they held their Day at the Capitol in conjunction with this CTE event.  Way to show off our strong CTE programming and leadership to our legislators!

I will once again accompany four CTSO student leaders (including an FCCLA student and FCCLA adviser) to Washington DC this coming week for ACTE's National Policy Seminar.  They will be taking their message of the value of CTE programming, including CTSO involvement in their educational experiences.

I thought I had carved out enough time to finish my January/February newsletter and here it is, March 2nd already!  (I think the same thing happened to me last year!)  I am once again reminded of how busy all of us can be this time of year with semester reports, new classes, FCCLA districts, ProStart competitions, snow days and make-ups (of which we had more than our share of this year!), wresting and basketball tournaments, music and speech contests, family and church events, professional development meetings, and legislative issues that touch our livelihood, to name a few!!! Yes, it seems to never end, but there each of you are, every day making a difference in the lives of your students!   I want to thank you for all you do for Iowa's CTE/FCS students!

Looking for an advanced degree program?

Many of you ask me for ideas of what you might do for an advanced degree. Here is an idea that you may not have thought of -- a Master's in Career and Technical Education! The University of Wisconsin-Stout CTE Program can be done online and they are interested in starting a co-hort here in Iowa. Here is a little more information about the program:

Interested in enhancing your teaching, or advancing into a CTE leadership role? The University of Wisconsin-Stout offers online programs and courses targeted toward secondary and post-secondary career and technical educators, taught by experienced faculty who have teaching and leadership experience at the secondary and postsecondary levels.

The Master of Science in Career and Technical Education (MSCTE) is a customizable, 30-credit online program in which students choose electives to meet their career goals related to teaching, leadership, online education, or a combination of all three. Examples of elective courses include Coordination of Work-based Learning, Program Evaluation, Coordination and Supervision of CTE, Instructional Analysis, Lifespan Career Development, and E-Learning for Educators, to name a few. If seeking professional development rather than a degree, courses may be taken as a non-degree seeking student, or you may choose a 9-credit graduate CTE Leadership Certificate option. Program information can be obtained online at https://wwwprod.uwstout.edu/programs/ms-career-and-technical-education or by contacting the Program Director, Deanna Schultz (schultzdea@uwstout.edu)

The Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Career and Technical Education is a 60-credit, executive cohort model program which brings students together twice a semester for weekend class sessions on the beautiful UW-Stout campus a block away from Lake Menomin; the majority of courses in the program are delivered online. The focus of the program is on leadership within the broad scope of workforce education/career and technical education. Program information can be obtained online at https://wwwprod.uwstout.edu/programs/edd-career-and-technical-education or by contacting the Program Director, Urs Haltinner (haltinneru@uwstout.edu)
