In the March 2025 report to the Board of Education (BOE), Superintendent Keith Hayashi shared findings from the Department’s recent employee housing study — an effort initiated to help identify potential housing support for employee retention — and announced the launch of a new, redesigned HIDOE public website.
Superintendent Hayashi provided updates regarding the Department’s ongoing efforts to monitor and evaluate the risks and impacts of new federal actions to funding and operations. This includes an internal work group dedicated to analyzing federal policies and implications. The Department also launched an initiative to recruit professionals affected by federal funding cuts.
For awards and recognitions, Superintendent Hayashi recognized the 25 Hawaiʻi educators for their completion of the rigorous National Board Certified Teacher program and celebrated the 15 principal nominees for the Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership award. Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School counselor Noelani Butcher was also honored as the American School Counselor Association’s Hawaiʻi School Counselor of the Year; eight HIDOE high schools were recognized for their outstand AP programs on the AP School Honor Roll; and the annual Career and Technical Student Organizations Conference, attended by over 2,000 middle and high school students was highlighted.
See Superintendent's presentation slides (please note the legislative update agenda item on slides 5-6 was postponed).
