 The City of Treasure Island’s Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) budget meetings began on August 7 and continue. The city encourages all residents and business owners to participate in this important process.
These public meetings provide an opportunity to share your ideas, priorities, and concerns directly with city leaders. Whether you want to comment on specific programs, services, or spending priorities, your input helps shape the final budget.

 Each year, TIFR reflects on the 343 firefighters who died at the World Trade Center and all the victims of that day. What began with just five on-duty firefighters has grown into a citywide tradition.
The 3.43-mile route, honoring the 343 fallen, begins at 8:46 a.m., the moment the North Tower was struck, at Freedom Boat Club, 12765 Kingfish Drive, and ends at the Heron Parking Lot on Sunset Beach, 7545 Bayshore Drive. Community members of all ages are welcome. The route follows Gulf Boulevard, with refreshments along the way.
Free parking is available at all Sunset Beach lots and City Hall. A shuttle will run throughout the morning to the starting point and back afterward.
After the walk, everyone is invited to gather at Treasure Island Caddy’s, 9000 West Gulf Boulevard, for a meal, a drink, or simply to keep honoring those we lost.

 The Treasure Island Police Department made arrests and significant developments in a complex fraud and burglary investigation involving approximately $1.5 million in precious metals and jewelry taken from a Treasure Island resident.
The investigation began with a sophisticated bank-impersonation telephone scam and ultimately led investigators across multiple jurisdictions and states. Through months of investigative work, in cooperation with the Sixth Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office and other law enforcement agencies, arrests have been made, and approximately 83% of the victim's wire fraud loss has been recovered.
"This case is an important reminder that these scams can be extremely convincing. If something doesn’t seem right, stop, verify who you are dealing with, and never be pressured into transferring money or valuables," said Treasure Island Police Chief John Barkley.

 Do you have any open building permits?
If a permit remains open and another storm causes damage, the city must combine both repair costs. Combined, that total could push your property over the 50% Substantial Damage threshold, which can trigger stricter rebuilding requirements.
The fix is simple. Close out any open permits now. If the work is complete, schedule your final inspection. Closing permits protects your property value, keeps your records clean, and helps you avoid claim or assessment headaches down the road.

 Join us for a “paw-tastic” time at the city's annual Barktoberfest on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the John Morroni Memorial Dog Park in Rosselli Park, located at 11650 Capri Circle S., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can enjoy lively music, delightful food and drinks, unique vendors, exciting giveaways, and a doggie costume contest at noon, plus the chance to meet pets available for adoption and watch live demonstrations by the St. Pete Training Club.
We're looking for more vendors and dog shelters/rescues to join in the fun! These vendors and local shelters or rescue groups can set up at this year's event and connect with the community.

JOINT FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL PUBLIC NOTICE
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Florida Division of Emergency Management have received the following application for Federal grant funding. Final notice is hereby given of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) consideration to provide funding in the form of Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Funds will be provided in accordance with Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, Public Law 93-288, as amended.
Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), federal actions must be reviewed and evaluated for feasible alternatives and for social, economic, historic, environmental, legal, and safety considerations. Under Executive Order (EO) 11988 and EO 11990 FEMA is required to consider alternatives to and to provide public notice of any proposed actions in or affecting floodplains or wetlands.
Funding for the proposed project will be conditional upon compliance with all applicable federal, tribal, state and local laws, regulations, floodplain standards, permit requirements and conditions.

No residential homes will be affected by this project. All proposed work is limited to City-owned property at Treasure Island City Hall, 10451 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island, FL 33706.
Proposed Work and Purpose:
The City of Treasure Island proposes to harden and floodproof its centrally located City Center/City Hall facility to ensure continuity of operations during and after major storm events. This critical project includes the installation of impact-resistant window systems, floodproofing of the first floor, construction of a perimeter storm surge barrier wall, and installation of an elevated, full-building emergency generator. The project will deliver a fortified, resilient facility capable of withstanding extreme weather, maintaining essential public services, and supporting disaster response and recovery efforts in the aftermath of severe events.
Project Alternatives:
The alternatives to the proposed project that have been and will be considered include 1) the no action alternative and 2) other feasible alternatives such as relocating City operations or retrofitting a new site. The no action alternative is not viable because it would leave the City vulnerable to prolonged service disruptions during future storm events, failing to meet the needs of the community. Other feasible alternatives were also determined to be impractical, as they are cost-prohibitive and logistically challenging. Therefore, these options are not practicable, and the proposed project remains the most effective and feasible solution to address the community’s needs.

Comments are solicited from the public; local, state or federal agencies; and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of the proposed project. The comments should be made in writing and addressed to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Bureau of Mitigation, 2555 Shumard Oak Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32399-2100. These are due within 15 days of this notice. The State will forward comments to applicable regulatory agencies as needed.  Last week, we shared yard waste guidelines from Waste Pro. After meeting with the Waste Pro team to discuss how we can make yard waste collection even smoother for our community, we're sharing an updated version to ensure your yard waste gets picked up without a hitch. We're also sharing some pictures that show examples of yard waste set out incorrectly, which will not be collected by Waste Pro.
Here's a quick recap of how to prep your yard waste for collection:
- Place it in your Waste Pro trash bin The easiest method — just don't overload the bin!
- Bag your clippings and leaves Any type of bag works; just make sure loose clippings and leaves are bagged.
- Bundle palm fronds and tree branches Use any type of twine or cordage; keep bundles under 50 lbs. and 4 ft. in length and place them neatly stacked at the curb.
Note: If a contractor or landscaper trims your trees or generates a large amount of yard waste, they're responsible for its removal.
