The City Commission has made a small adjustment to its schedule. Workshops will now be scheduled before the regular meetings. Workshops will start at 5 p.m., followed by the meetings at 6 p.m. This change aims to prevent meetings from running too late into the night. The new schedule will take effect at the next commission meeting on September 2.

The City Commission has voted to proceed with outsourcing the city's solid waste services to WastePro of Florida at the August 19 Commission Meeting. Here’s what that means for you.
-
Lower bills: Residents and businesses are projected to save around $700,000 annually, which amounts to approximately $7 to $9 less on your monthly bill for residents, along with greater savings on commercial accounts.
-
Same level of service, no drop-off: Garbage and recycling pickup will continue as usual.
-
Parks & beaches covered: City staff will continue to handle trash collection at parks, beach access points, and other public spaces not covered by WastePro.
-
Significant savings for the city, too: Outsourcing means the city won’t need to buy costly new garbage trucks or replace hundreds of dumpsters.
-
Staff opportunities: WastePro has agreed to meet with our current sanitation workers to discuss job opportunities.
Next up: City staff will prepare a contract with WastePro. That contract will be made publicly available so residents can review and provide feedback before it receives final approval from the Commission.

Treasure Island, in partnership with Pinellas County Government, is working hard to reduce mosquito activity in our community. Results from last week’s traps set by the county show that most mosquitoes are Aedes aegypti—the species that breeds in small containers of standing water on private property. These are best managed by residents regularly dumping out water around their homes. Please remember to tip & toss standing water weekly!
Keep doing your part. Your efforts make the most significant difference! Empty standing water weekly to help protect the community.

It’s important to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially during hurricane season. If a storm threatens your area, be ready by having a battery-operated or hand-crank weather radio and be sure to sign up for emergency alerts.
