Next week, the city of Treasure Island will initiate a new permit process aimed at issuing more permits in a timelier, more efficient, and easier-to-understand manner.
The current staff will be split into two teams working in the lobby on Tuesdays and Thursdays to assist individuals with the application process, with the goal of issuing permits on the spot. On other days, the teams will work together behind the scenes to process permits and handle additional tasks.
The city is also seeking to expand the team by requesting additional state resources to form two more teams. Although the arrival of new staff is uncertain, the city is moving forward with the changes and will update the commission on its progress.
The state of Florida has approved three floodplain managers to start working with the city. This helps move the process along more quickly as well.
