Pinellas County is planning a beach nourishment project on Treasure Island in 2025/2026. This project intends to restore the beach destroyed by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton. Construction of the project requires the establishment of an Erosion Control Line (ECL) along the length of the project.
Staff from the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection, Pinellas County, and APTIM, Inc., will be present to explain the ECL, address your questions and take public comments at a workshop and hearing this evening, Jan. 22, at City Hall from 6-8 p.m.
The location of the Proposed ECL was established based upon the 1968 Mean High Water Line (MHWL), legal documentation from previous property surveys and field observations, as surveyed on July 30, 2024. This line predated the ECL statute and had logistical issues with its location in relationship to the developments that have taken place since 1968. Also, no further nourishment will be authorized without an ECL.

After a challenging few months of recovery from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Treasure Island is thrilled to announce a “sand-sational” new event that combines two of its most popular attractions: sand sculptures and kite flying! Back to the Beach: Sand & Kites & Coastal Delights will revive Treasure Island Beach on March 8-9, ushering in a spirited celebration of resilience, community, and coastal beauty.
This festival will offer something for everyone. Visitors will be amazed by a giant sand sculpture symbolizing Treasure Island’s journey of recovery and renewal. Above, the sky will come alive with colorful and creative kites. Throughout the day, the festival will buzz with live music, delicious food truck offerings, and unique goods from local vendors, creating a festive atmosphere for families, friends, and beach lovers alike.
The “&” in “Sand & Kites & Coastal Delights” is more than just a symbol; it represents the essence of Treasure Island and Visit St. Pete Clearwater's theme: We are more than a beach. Treasure Island is a beach & fun events, a beach & community, a beach & resilience. The ampersand conveys the idea that our island is a place where the beach connects to so much more that makes our destination special.
Mark your calendars for March 8-9, 2025, and head to Treasure Island Beach for a special celebration. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, so gather your crew and get ready to soak up the sun, fun & community spirit. Let’s all come together to celebrate the strength of our community, appreciate the beauty of our beaches, and demonstrate that Treasure Island is open, vibrant, and still shining.
Join us for "Sand & Kites & Coastal Delights," where the sand meets the sky & the community shines bright.

Congratulations to the 2024 Treasure Island Employees of the Year!
Employees of the Year are nominated by their peers and supervisors to recognize their contributions. The 2024 winners are:
Public Safety: Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Drooger | Treasure Island Fire Rescue
Respected and regarded for guidance and knowledge by all members of the Fire Department, FF Drooger took the initiative this year to build a dryer for their turnout gear, which would typically cost up to $10,000. By researching and adapting DIY plans online, FF Drooger created the apparatus for less than $1,000. This is a testament to his ongoing dedication to the Fire Department and the City.
Office: Jackie Gabriel, Senior Code Compliance Inspector | Community Development Department
Jackie is recognized by her peers for her cross-departmental assistance and innovative ideas. Most recently, she willingly took on the additional duties of acting as the County liaison at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during hurricane recovery efforts, which required her to learn the nuances of the role and quickly build relationships. Her co-workers describe her as someone who demonstrates hard work, passion, and integrity every day, and she always finds a way to get answers.
Field: William "Ryan" Patton, Facility Maintenance I | Public Works Department
Nominated by his peers as an exceptional team player, Ryan started with the City in January 2022. His co-workers view him as friendly and cheerful, always ready to lend a hand to other departments. Ryan is an all-around good worker and a pleasure to collaborate with at work.
