The past months have been challenging as our community continues to recover from the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Yet, as we enter the holiday season, we are reminded of the strength, resilience, and unity that make Treasure Island a Paradise Found.
Although we cannot host the annual Holiday Lighted Boat Parade this year, the city of Treasure Island, in partnership with the Life Intervention Focus Team (L.I.F.T.), is excited to present "L.I.F.T. Your Spirits with a December to Remember."
This festive celebration will occur on Saturday, December 21, from 5 to 9 p.m., in front of City Hall on Park Street. It’s an opportunity to come together, count our blessings, and enjoy the spirit of the season with friends, family, and neighbors.
The event will feature:
- A special visit from Santa, who will arrive in grand style at 5:30 p.m.
- Live music to get everyone rockin' around the Christmas tree.
- Fun activities for kids.
- Delicious food and beverages.
- Local vendors with unique holiday offerings.
The city encourages everyone to bring their chairs, a festive attitude and a desire to celebrate all that makes Treasure Island so special. Together, we can lift our spirits and share in the joy of the season as we continue to rebuild and recover.

Congratulations to Diana Crabill, who was sworn in as the District 2 Commissioner at last night's (Dec. 3) Commission meeting. She succeeds Commissioner John Doctor, who became Mayor last month following Tyler Payne's resignation. Commissioner Crabill will serve in this role until the March 2025 elections. Previously, she was a member of the Local Planning Agency Board and the Planning and Zoning Board.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has detected low levels of red tide (K. brevis) in Pinellas County over the past week. Sample processing is ongoing. You can stay updated with FWC’s daily red tide map by visiting myfwc.com/redtidemap or Pinellas County’s Red Tide Status Map at Pinellas.gov/red-tide.
City crews are beginning to see some dead fish wash ashore. Crews are working hard to keep our beaches clean with morning rakes and, if needed, afternoon rakes to remove any additional fish quickly.

A reminder to residents that construction debris does not belong in gray trash bins.
Recently, Public Works staff has observed an increase in this issue, leading to several problems:
- Construction debris weight damages garbage trucks.
- Repairs result in downtime and delays.
- Extra costs affect everyone.
Let’s work together to keep the city’s garbage equipment running smoothly. Dispose of construction debris properly by contacting a local contractor for removal or by taking it to a county dump site yourself. Thank you.

The Treasure Island Community Development Department has been working tirelessly to help our community rebuild after Hurricanes Helene and Milton. To date, more than 1,159 permit applications have been submitted. Out of those, 203 permits have been approved, another 88 permits are ready to be issued, and 67 permits need a little more information to be issued. Staff is continuing to process applications as quickly as possible—even during office closures.
The city has created a Post-Hurricane Rebuilding FAQ webpage to address common concerns and provide helpful information. While we know this resource may not cover every question, we’re actively updating it to include more.
For updates and resources, visit mytreausreisland.com, email CDD at permits@mytreasureisland.org or call 727-547-4575 x230. Please remember that you may have to wait for an email back or call back due to a high volume of calls and emails.
Substantial Damage Inspections Under the National Flood Insurance Program, the city is required to complete a Substantial Damage Determination for all structures in the city. The city along with teams from the State and County began these required Substantial Damage inspections the week of 10/28/24.
Homeowners and businesses in Treasure Island can find out if their structure is considered "substantially damaged" by receiving a letter in the mail from the city. If the property has an active permit and the city has an email address for the owner, they will also get an email saying the letter is ready to be picked up at City Hall.
Only the property owner will receive this information, which is why the letter isn’t sent by email.

The application deadline for hurricanes Milton and Helene has been extended to Jan. 7, 2025.
Homeowners and renters can apply for assistance by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov, using the FEMA App, or calling 800-621-3362.
If you had damage from both storms, you will need to apply separately for both disasters and provide the dates of your damage.
