PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! Not sure why some people thought this was a good idea but it is DANGEROUS and creates hazards for people, city staff, emergency personnel, and marine life such as sea turtles. Someone walking the beach at night could fall into this hole and be seriously injured or a sea turtle gets stuck in the hole and dies.
We want you to have fun on our beaches. All we ask is to LEAVE NO TRACE - FILL IN ANY HOLES BEFORE LEAVING AND KNOCK DOWN SANDCASTLES. A simple act that can go a long way in protecting people and marine life.

Attention drivers. On Friday, March 31, Public Works and the Police Department will be working together to relocate an osprey nest on the traffic signal of the bascule bridge. The nest currently has no eggs or young and its location is subject to high vibrations from traffic and poses a danger to vehicles due to the size of the nesting materials. The city receives frequent requests each year to have the nest relocated. Once the relocation is complete, a deterrent will be placed on the traffic signal to prevent future nests in this location.
To facilitate this process, intermittent lane closures will occur at the Treasure Island Causeway draw bridge from approximately 9-10:15 a.m. on Friday. The nest will be relocated to a nearby platform.

Landscaping construction continues along the East Treasure Island Causeway causing occasional lane closures. The landscaping was scheduled to be done during the fall, but Hurricane Ian disrupted the contractor's work/schedule, causing a delay in the project. The city did NOT intend for the landscaping to be done during Spring Break, but this is the only time the contractors could get in and finish the project. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
