THIS WEEKEND! Sanding Ovations Presents "Once Upon A Time"

Once upon a time, once a year, on the shores of a beautiful, pristine beach on the Gulf of Mexico, the sand comes to life and creates a world of fantasy and fun. This phenomenon is known as Sanding Ovations and will happen on Treasure Island Beach Nov. 17-20 with an encore weekend Nov. 26-27.  Presented by Visit St. Pete Clearwater and the City of Treasure Island, this year’s theme will be “Once Upon a Time” and will feature exquisite sand sculptures that will transform you into a land of storybook fantasies.

The masterful exhibition of sand sculpting talent at a world-class level is a big appeal, supplemented by the sponsor sculptures created by Treasure Island’s own Meredith and Dan Doubleday of Sanding Ovations professional sand sculptors.  This year’s “Once Upon a Time” wonderland will be created through the imaginations of sculptors Sue McGrew, Deborah Barrett-Cutulle, Benoit Dutherage, Abe Waterman, Damon Meri, Melineige Beauregard, Fergus Mulvany, Dan, and Meredith Doubleday and Bruce Phillips.

Visitors will also have access to a beach food court, beer garden and arts and crafts marketplace. Kites and night fly’s will be provided by Windworks of Maderia Beach. With fireworks lighting up the night sky on Saturday, Nov. 19, and local, regional, and national touring bands making waves throughout the event, Sanding Ovations is a must-see experience in beautiful Treasure Island.

Sanding Ovations presents “Once Upon a Time,” a Sand Sculpting Exhibition and Competition” is free and open to the public. Congratulations Phil Girardi

Congratulations to Phil Girardi, Director of Tennis for Treasure Bay Golf, Tennis & Recreation Center! Girardi was recently inducted as the new president of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) - Florida section.

Phil has been involved with tennis practically his entire life and has volunteered with USTA Florida for more than 20 years. He is now the 2023-2024 USTA Florida Board of Directors President, replacing Dana Andrews. Girardi enjoys serving on the board because it's a fantastic visionary group for tennis and he feels everyone should play tennis and get all the benefits from the sport.

Girardi is the Director of Tennis at Treasure Bay and head coach for the St. Petersburg College Lady Titans tennis team. He is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).

Treasure Island Fire Rescue Members Recieve Awards

At this last night’s (11/15) City Commission Meeting, Chief Trip Barrs honored two Treasure Island Firefighters/Paramedics.

Firefighter/Paramedic Joshua Torres was awarded the Exemplary Fire Performance Award for his volunteer actions in southwest Florida in areas impacted by Hurricane Ian. Torres was assigned to staff a fire engine provided by Citrus County Fire Rescue that was a part of the region 4 engine strike team. Upon arrival at the staging location, they were assigned a variety of tasks, including staffing fire stations on Pine Island, welfare checks, and delivering food and water to residents working to recover from the hurricane. The Exemplary Fire Performance Award is presented for exemplary performance during an incident whereby the individual acted in a manner to bring a situation under control with minimal collateral damage to persons and/or property in immanent peril.

Firefighter/Paramedic Juan Bagos-Esteves was recognized for his five years of service with Treasure Island Fire Rescue. During his time here, Juan has become qualified as an engine operator, acting company officer and a preceptor for new paramedics. His calm demeanor and can-do attitude are an example for all to follow.

Treasure Island Welcomes a New TIPD Officer

Officer Wells was sworn in as a new Treasure Island Police officer on Nov. 16, 2022. 

Treasure Island Fire Rescue Car Seat Safety Checkup Event

Treasure Island Fire Rescue is teaming up with Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital for a Car Safety Seat Checkup Event on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Treasure Bay Clubhouse, 10315 Paradise Boulevard.

A car seat is one of the best ways you can protect your child while traveling in a vehicle, but using it correctly can be a challenge. At this car seat checkup appointment, a nationally certified child passenger safety technician(s) will guide and educate you in this hands-on educational event.
