The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce hosts a business meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. These meetings are open to all businesses as a way to network with other businesses in the city of Treasure Island and to get the latest happenings. The Mayor, City Manager, Police Chief, and Public Information Officer are in attendance to give updates and answer questions on behalf of the city.
Natural disasters are increasing in severity and frequency. Preparing for devastating events like hurricanes, floods, snowstorms, tornadoes, wildfires and earthquakes helps individuals and communities increase the health and safety of their population during a disaster, protects the local tax base, ensures continuity of essential services, and supports a faster recovery in the aftermath of a disaster.

The Florida marine turtle nesting season is from May to October each year.
There are simple steps everyone can take to help protect marine turtles such as:
- Not leaving objects on the beach overnight (refer to the City's Leave No Trace ordinance here)
- Knocking down sand castles and filling in holes before leaving the beach
- Placing all trash and recyclables in the proper containers
- Drawing the curtains at night to keep light from being seen from the beach
- Shielding all exterior lighting, using the least amount of lighting necessary, keeping lights low to the ground, and using long wavelength (amber) bulbs

As the tempearatures and humidity begins to rise even more, it's important to keep your self safe when outdoors.
Heat exhaustion occurs when the body loses excess amounts of water and salt, typically from sweating. On the other hand, heat stroke is a serious medical emergency that occurs when your body is unable to control its internal temperature.

National Safe Boating Week will be held from May 21-27, 2022, reminding all boaters to brush up on boating safety skills and prepare for the boating season.
The Treasure Island Police Department recommends these tips for boaters:
-
Check equipment. Schedule a free vessel safety check with local law enforcement.
-
Wear a life jacket. Make sure everyone wears a life jacket – every time. A stowed life jacket is no use in an emergency.
-
Watch the weather. Always check the forecast before departing on the water and frequently during the excursion.
-
Know where you’re going and travel at safe speeds. Be familiar with the area, local boating speed zones and always travel at a safe speed.
-
Never boat under the influence. A BUI is involved in one-third of all recreational boating fatalities. Always designate a sober skipper.
-
Keep in touch. Have more than one communication device that works when wet. VHF radios, emergency locator beacons, satellite phones, and cell phones can all be important devices in an emergency.
-
Vessel Documentation. Your boat needs to have proper documentation and registration, just like your car. If you have just purchased a boat, it is essential to know that your boat needs a name and a hailing port. These must be printed per US Coast Guard standards. Your vessel identification number needs to be displayed on the side and rear of the boat. In addition to the federal requirements, all 50 states require a state validation sticker after the vessel number.
-
Visual Distress Signals (VDS). It's a good idea to have at least three different types of VDS on your boat at all times. This backup measure will help ensure rescue in the event of a failure.
