News From the City of Treasure Island • April 13, 2022
In the coming months, the Florida Department of Transportation will be doing some work on the John's Pass Bridge. This project will provide routine maintenance to the lighting and moveable parts of the bridges. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2022 and be complete in the fall of 2023.
Treasure Island Summer Camps are the place to be for fun, games, sports, arts and crafts, parties, guest speakers, entertainment, movies, field trips and more.
Permits are the means by which the city of Treasure Island regulates construction. Unlicensed contracting and working without permits is illegal and will result in a stop work order and/or possible FEMA 50% Rule violations. All stop work orders will be reported to the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board (PCCLB) and the Department of Department of Professional Regulations (DBPR).
Over the next few weeks, the Treasure Island Police Department in partnership with Southwest Region Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Coast Guard, will be conducting enhanced patrols aimed at vessel operators boating under the influence. Boating under the influence is not only illegal but it is dangerous to you, your passengers and other boaters. It is never worth the risk. We urge boaters to designate a sober operator before leaving the boat ramp
At last week's City Commission Meeting three Treasure Island Fire Rescue Employees were honored.
Lt. Steven Rowland and firefighter Jordan Dahlstrom deployed to the Florida Panhandle as part of a strike team from our region that assisted communities in protecting homes and businesses from wildfires. For their actions above and beyond their duty, they were each awarded the Exemplary Fire Performance Award.
Firefighter Troy Turner recognized that the emergency lighting on our high water vehicle, Brush 24, was inadequate and proposed the addition of warning lights and a PA/Siren. FF Turner used parts on hand and minimal new items to upgrade the emergency lighting and add a siren, completing all of the work on shift, in addition to his regularly assigned duties. For his actions to improve the Department’s equipment and provide a safer working environment for all, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award.
