New Mural, Seafood Festival, Golf Tournament and more.
Getting around our City Hall complex should be easier: we have placed wayfinding signs to help those visiting our three buildings.
So many people were entering City Hall looking for a building permit, for example. We now clearly direct patrons to the police station, the development services building (where planning and zoning, building and engineering departments are) and our main City Hall where you’ll find Council Chambers, utility billing, city clerk, human resources, finance, procurement, and administration.
You’ll see more wayfinding signs farther away from City Hall; we wanted to start close-by first. The yellow-on-black sign format is a trial run.
We’ll evaluate as time goes on.

Councilmember Andreu and I are set to receive the Environmental Champion Awards from the Broward Sierra Group Saturday. This recognition acknowledges courage and dedication in protecting our environment by advancing sustainable and equitable solutions to address climate change.
In the last two years, Plantation restored its Tree City USA status and added a community garden. A pilot composting program is in the works. I also committed to the environment by signing the Southeast Florida Climate Compact Pledge and the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge.
The event is at the Broward County PBA Banquet Hall, 2901 SW 26th Terrace, Fort Lauderdale.

We have a new mural at the recently renamed Kingsley Smith park. We partnered with the Business for the Arts of Broward to bring an iconic One Love mural by a renowned artist Cey Adams to Plantation. If you haven’t seen it yet, visit it at 4680 NW 9th Court.
The annual Plantation Parks and Recreation Foundation is seeking golfers for its Sept. 27 event at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course. To sign up or sponsor this fundraiser, visit Eventbrite.
The day includes a dinner and awards ceremony. Money directly supports the installation of a new splash pad at one of our parks and enhances the city’s recreational facilities in other ways.

On Sept. 11, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approved a catalytic grant for the façade and other improvements at the West Broward Shopping Center located at N. State Rd. 7 and W. Broward Blvd.
A portion of the center will be redeveloped with Publix as a new tenant. The neighbors expressed how important it was to keep the U.S. post office in this shopping center and the City worked with the developer to make sure that it was done.
To elevate the appearance of the entire center, CRA approved a $1 million grant. The details of how the grant funds will be disbursed are being worked out in a separate agreement that will be discussed at a future CRA meeting.
