Trailahassee.com Takes Home Digital Top Honors

Earning recognition for its innovative website, Trailahassee.com, Leon County Tourism Development (Visit Tallahassee) has been honored for being listed among the Best City & Urban Innovation Websites by the 18th Annual Webby Awards, hailed as the Internet's highest honor by The New York Times. The website also received two awards from the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation, which operates the ADDY Awards.

“The effort put forth by our Tourism Development team was truly award worthy,” said Vincent S. Long, Leon County Administrator. “They developed a highly functional, mobile-responsive website that is well designed and provides significant information about our community, which  greatly assists tourists as well as Leon County residents who enjoy our trails for running and a variety of other outdoor adventures.”

Leon County Tourism Development created Trailahassee.com in conjunction with Tallahassee-Leon County Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which provides mapping technology for the Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee and the Leon County Property Appraiser’s Office. The website offers a personal guide of Leon County with map views and GPS functionality to more than 600 miles of land, water and wildlife for hiking, biking, cycling, running and equestrian trails at any skill level.

“We’re honored to be recognized for creating Trailahassee.com,” said Lee Daniel, executive director of Leon County Tourism Development. “To be recognized alongside websites from New York and London to Buenos Aires and San Francisco is a true testament to the ingenuity behind the site.”

The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). The IADAS, which nominates and selects the who’s who of Internet ingenuity, is comprised of Web industry experts, including media mogul Arianna Huffington, Skype Chief Executive Officer Tony Bates, Mozilla Chief Executive and Chair Mitchell Baker, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, mobile-phone inventor Martin Cooper and Jif creator Steve Wilhite.

"Honorees like Trailahassee.com are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 12,000 entries we received this year."

Trailahassee.com also won two silver ADDY awards – top honor in the Digital Advertising Services category and GPS & Location Technology category – from the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Advertising Federation. The ADDYs are the advertising industry’s largest competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries nationally each year through local American Advertising Federation Club competitions. The awards recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
