Leon County Earns Nine Awards for National Best Practices

Focused on setting the highest standard in public service, Leon County received 9 national Achievement Awards for exceptional County programs and services from the National Association of Counties (NACo), bringing the County’s total to 95 NACo awards since 2013.

Annually, NACo seeks to recognize innovative county government programs from across the nation. With awards in categories ranging from Civic Education and Public Information to County Resiliency, Leon County continues to be a benchmark for local governments everywhere.

“These recognitions highlight the County’s commitment to provide exceptional public service to our citizens,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. “Our dedicated team continues to set and exceed expectations, and our community can be assured that the County remains committed to delivering the best service.”

Many of the NACo awards highlight programs, services and initiatives that advance county government and enhance services to citizens. Leon County awarded projects this year reflect a continued commitment to being a resilient, sustainable and innovative organization.

“NACo’s Achievement Award program recognizes the best of the best in county government programs and practices nationwide, so earning these designations is an important testament to Leon County’s efforts to consistently set the standard in public service,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Without the professionalism and talent of our dedicated Leon County team and the vision, leadership, and support of the Board of County Commissioners, none of this would be possible.”

In 2022, Leon County Government received the following awards for exceptional programs and services:

• Art of the Box in the category of Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation
• Capital Area Sustainability Compact in the category of County Resiliency
• Community Human Services Partnership Enhancements in the category of Human Services
• COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout in the category of Civic Education and Public Information
• Essential Libraries Initiative in the category of Libraries
• Leon County-Tallahassee Community Land Trust in the category of Community and Economic Development
• “Love Your Local” Small Business Promotion Campaign in the category of Community and Economic Development
• SmartSteps Microloan Program in the category of Community and Economic Development
• Sundown Concert Series Partnership in the category of Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation

Started in 1970, the annual NACo Achievement Awards program recognizes the innovative work that counties do every day to modernize government and increase services to citizens.
