Progress on S. Magnolia Drive Brings New Traffic Pattern

With recent progress, The S. Magnolia Drive Major Improvements project moves to the next phase of construction and closer to completion. Beginning this week, citizens will see a new traffic pattern in the area as work continues. To find updated detour information, please visit LeonCountyFL.gov/Magnolia. The reopening of S. Magnolia Drive is expected in late summer 2022.

The section of S. Magnolia Drive between S. Monroe Street and S. Meridian Street is now open again to the public. As progress continues, the closure will remain on S. Magnolia Drive between S. Meridian Street and Pontiac Drive.

Magnolia Drive Detour Update

The S. Magnolia Drive Major Improvements project was designed by Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency and the County. The ongoing improvements include an upgraded trail to provide connectivity, updated landscaping and street lighting for pedestrian safety, water and sewer upgrades, and roadway repair. The City of Tallahassee is further enhancing the corridor by converting overhead electric lines to underground and making traffic signal improvements at the S. Meridian Street and Magnolia Drive intersection.

The final phase of construction will further these infrastructure upgrades including a focus on accessibility and safety measures for pedestrians. Additional advancements include creating a landscape buffer along the paved walking trail and enhancing street lighting.

Magnolia Drive between Meridian Road and Pontiac Drive is expected to reopen in late summer 2022.
