County Public Works Receives National Accreditation for Commitment to Best Practices

This month, Leon County Public Works earned full accreditation by the American Public Works Association (APWA), formally verifying and recognizing the County’s commitment to best practices set forth in APWA’s Public Works Management Practices Manual. This accreditation recognizes the County’s ongoing efforts to excel in construction, leadership, and engagement.

“National accreditation underscores our County’s commitment to the highest standards of public service,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Rick Minor. “Our Public Works teams exemplify that dedication to excellence, especially when responding to disasters.”

APWA Accreditation acknowledges the County’s commitment to serving our community in even the most challenging times. Also, the recognition highlights the long lasting work of Public Works and the infrastructure that will serve future generations. County Public Works has joined the ranks of only 172 other agencies in North America and 22 other agencies in the state of Florida to have received APWA Accreditation.

“Through hard work and dedication, our County Public Works teams exceeded even the most rigorous APWA accreditation benchmarks,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “National accreditation reinforces our County’s commitment to providing the highest quality services to our citizens while also acknowledging the tireless work of our Public Works teams."

APWA accreditation showcases the excellence in the operation and management of Leon County Public Works, its programs and employees. The initial accreditation is for a four-year period, during which time, Public Works will complete semi-annual updates to demonstrate continuing compliance.

“This prestigious accreditation recognizes Public Works professionals nationwide who are the best in their fields,” said Leon County Public Works Director Brent Pell. “I am proud to lead a County team who literally make our community a great place to live, work and play.”
