Essential Libraries Initiative

Essential Libraries Initiative

We are proud to present the Essential Libraries Initiative (ELI), a strategic plan that re-envisions the Library to address the changing needs of residents and trends in library use. In March 2020, the County gathered input from thousands of citizens and community partners and began the process of creating the ELI. The plan was approved by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in June 2021 with refocused priorities and action items to implement enhancements to the Library’s offerings. Learn more about the ELI here.

Pamela Monroe

Meet Pamela Monroe

Pamela is the new Innovation Officer at the Library, and she is responsible for implementing the Essential Libraries Initiative. She has called Leon County home for nearly 30 years. She received her bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University and her master's degree in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University. After graduating, she spent six years in school libraries and as the Sunday youth librarian at the Main Library. Pamela comes to us from FAMU Libraries, where she spent seven years as the Information Literacy Coordinator and Head of Reference Services working with faculty and students doing research. Pamela says, "When I was introduced to the Essential Libraries Initiative, I knew that I wanted to be a part of a plan that focused on meeting the needs of the community and expanding our reach to all citizens of Leon County." We welcome Pamela to the Library family!
