Leon County Continues Black History Month Programming

with Two Interactive Virtual Events

The LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library invites you to share your favorite African American story at the Read-In and listen to historians discuss the Untold Stories of Leon County's Black History. Please join us on February 22 and 23 for virtual programming set to engage and inspire. Events are free and individuals are encouraged to visit LeonCountyLibrary.org to learn more about County programming throughout Black History Month.

 

Untold Stories of Leon County's Black History Zoom Event

WHEN:          Monday, February 22, 4 p.m.

WHERE:        Virtual Event through Zoom

What's a story of the deep, rich African American experience in Leon County that often gets overlooked? This free and engaging event features historians with FAMU's history department and the Meek-Eaton Black Archives who will present their unique stories and perspective on the African American Experience in Leon County.

African American Read-In Zoom Event

WHEN:          Tuesday, February 23, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

WHERE:        Virtual Event through Zoom

The African American Read-In promotes diversity in literature while shining a spotlight on African American authors and is open to readers of all ages. The event will also feature a performance from Godby High School's outstanding drumline.

From 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., attendees will listen to readings of children's books written by African American authors such as Kwame Alexander, Oge Mora, Brian Pinkney and many more. After 7 p.m., attendees are invited to read and discuss their favorite African American story, with 5 minutes for each reader. To sign up to read your favorite African American story, click here.
