Leon County and CONA Announce 40th Annual Neighborhood

Awards Program Highlighting Exemplary Neighbors During Pandemic

In a year that has brought unprecedented challenges, neighbors have found new ways to stay connected and help one another and their community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Leon County Government and the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) are recognizing neighborhoods and neighbors that have gone above and beyond to make our community a better place to live, work and play-even when facing adversity.

The application deadline for the 40th Annual Neighborhood of the Year and Neighbor of the Year is Friday, February 19, 2021. To apply, please visit: LeonCountyFL.gov/NeighborhoodServices

Applications are now being accepted in the following categories:

  • Small Neighborhood of the Year- Neighborhood with 200 homes or fewer;
  • Large Neighborhood of the Year- Neighborhood with more than 200 homes;
  • Unincorporated Neighborhood of the Year- outside the city limits (Leon County unincorporated only); and
  • Neighbor of the Year.

Since the awards program began 40 years ago, hundreds of neighborhoods and countless neighbors have been recognized across the county for their service and dedication to improving the quality of life in our community. The Neighborhood of  the Year Awards highlight associations that focus on neighborhood improvements, engagement and resilience. Winners will receive an award sign for their respective neighborhood. The Neighbor of the Year Award seeks to highlight an individual who exemplifies the characteristics of leadership and service in making contributions to his or her community and will receive an award plaque.

This year, special consideration will be given to neighborhoods and neighbors that have gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic to foster a safe, healthy and resilient community.

Please email any relevant photos, video(s), or materials you would like to include in your application to CMR@LeonCountyFL.gov. Winners will be announced in March at the Leon County Board of County Commissioners Board Meeting.
