WHAT:           Leon County Library Lecture Series

WHEN:          Thursday, February 6 at 6 p.m.

Join Leon County Government and the National Endowment for the Arts to kick off this year’s Big Read on Thursday, February 6, at 6 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library. The night will feature a 2020 Library Lecture event with acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Jeff VanderMeer whose novel “Annihilation” was made into a successful Hollywood movie of the same name starring Natalie Portman.

Enter a world of phantasmagorical creatures in a future we should hope to avoid. VanderMeer will lead a reading, exploration and discussion of his popular novel “Borne,” as well as talk about nature and the rich biodiversity of Tallahassee-Leon County and how we can keep it that way. VanderMeer is known by many as the “weird Thoreau” for his works including his Southern Reach trilogy and his novel “Borne,” which is slated to become a TV series and has been successfully published in 35 countries.

As a part of the Big Read, attendees of this lecture will be able to take home a free personal copy of the book “Borne.”

Because of the book's nature themes, attendees will be able to check out (with their library card) three packets of seeds to start your spring garden early at the Main Library in advance of the Spring Seed Library Launch on Saturday, February 8.

To register for the lecture, click here. Space for this event is limited.

All lectures are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Leon County selects speakers and topics that engage and inspire, appealing to the interests of all citizens. At each lecture books and materials will be displayed and available for check out.
