County Celebrates New Dog Park with Tricks and Treats

Today, Leon County held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of its first dog park located adjacent to the Bradfordville Community Center, 6808 Beech Ridge Trail. Community members were invited to attend with their dogs dressed to impress in costume to celebrate the grand opening of the first of many County dog parks.

“From fence to fence, this dog park will be a treasure for our community, whether walking, jogging, playing fetch, or making a new friend,” said Leon County District 4 Commissioner Bryan Desloge. “With its 13 acres, shade, and seating, this spot has it all for humans and dogs alike.” 

The new dog park is conveniently located for residents in the northeast part of the County. The dog park is unique in that it does not have separate areas for large and small dogs, but rather provides off-leash space for dogs to co-mingle and play. For pet owners, the facility has two benches and a shade covering to take a rest and meet other dog-parents.   

“At the County, we continually look for ways we can improve the quality of life for our citizens, including our furry ones,” Vincent S. Long, Leon County Administrator said. “And today is only the beginning as the County continues to look for additional opportunities to add dog parks and recreation throughout the community.” 

The event brought residents and dogs dressed in costume as well as community members interested in checking out the new space. Big Dog Rescue was in attendance with adoptable dogs. Treats for humans and their pets were available from Lucy and Leos Bakery. 

“This new dog park is a needed and welcomed amenity for dog owners in the northeast area,” said Deann Maxfield with Big Dog Rescue. “I think it will be very popular for residents in our community and look forward to bringing my dogs here in the days and weeks ahead.”
