After two consecutive successful years of litter clean-ups on Lake Jackson resulting in volunteers pulling more than 1,000 lbs. of trash out of the lake and off the lake shore, Leon County Government will host the first Lake Iamonia On-the-Water Clean Up on Saturday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will launch from the County boat landing at 12271 Iamonia Landing Road.

In collaboration with Tall Timbers, Florida Kayak School and Tours, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Harry Smith Outdoors and Friends of Lake Jackson, Leon County citizens will spend the morning in canoes and kayaks cleaning up litter on Lake Iamonia. This event helps to ensure that our water bodies are conserved, and protected so as to be enjoyed by future generations.

Outdoor recreating is one of the most sustainable things anyone can do as it consumes little to no energy and connects citizens to our community. Spending more time in nature has also been shown to make people happier and less stressed, and serves as a reminder to protect our natural resources.

Volunteers of all skill levels are invited to participate in this year’s clean-up event. Sign up to volunteer at Growinggreen.org/cleanup.
