County Eliminates User Fees for

Rural Waste Service Centers 

Effective October 1, Leon County Government has eliminated user fees for all four County Rural Waste Service Centers: Miccosukee, Woodville, Fort Braden, and the Solid Waste Facility on Apalachee Parkway.

Approved as part of the FY 2019-20 budget process, unincorporated Leon County residents will no longer pay a monthly or per-bag fee, which will save customers money and incentivize households to use the County's disposal sites so as to reduce illegal dumping and roadside litter.

"I am very proud of the Board's unanimous support at our June budget workshop to eliminate user fees at all of the County's Rural Waste Service Centers," said Leon County Commission Chairman Jimbo Jackson. "With thousands of households in unincorporated Leon County, the centers provide an important service for many citizens and now at no additional cost to the user."

Rural Waste Service Center customers can expect the same great service from County attendants at the same hours as before. All centers will continue to accept household garbage, yard waste, small household items and appliances, tires, and household hazardous waste.

“Through the County’s sound, long-term financial planning we were able to eliminate fees at all Rural Waste Service Centers,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “We will continue to offer the same high-quality service our citizens expect during the same hours, which encourages proper waste dispoal and protects our environment.”
