Community Input Needed for Comprehensive Plan Updates

The City of Tallahassee and Leon County will host a series of meetings to gain input from the community about the Land Use and Mobility elements of the Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan, which provides the blueprint for growth and development. All of the open houses and workshops will take place from 6:30-8 p.m.

Six Open Houses will take place around the community. At these meetings, residents can talk to staff and provide feedback on the major takeaways of the Comp Plan update’s proposed Goals and Objectives.

  • Thursday, Feb. 28, Jack McLean Community Center, 700 Paul Russell Road
  • Monday, March 4, Bradfordville Community Center, 6808 Beech Ridge Trail
  • Tuesday, March 5, Fort Braden Community Center, 16387 Blountstown Highway
  • Thursday, March 7, Dorothy Spence Community Center, 4768 Chaires Cross Road
  • Thursday, March 14, Community Room at Amtrak Center, 918 Railroad Avenue
  • Tuesday, April 2, Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 North Monroe Street

Residents may also provide feedback online through a Digital Workshop at SurveyMonkey.com/r/SharedObjectives.

In addition to the Open Houses and online survey, residents are invited to participate in deep dive workshops for each of the goals. At the workshops, attendees will be asked to brainstorm and provide detailed input on how we collectively will achieve these community goals. Each workshop will take place in the second-floor conference room at the Frenchtown Renaissance Center, 435 North Macomb Street.

  • Monday, March 18: Community Workshop on Proposed Objectives – Goal 1: Places Where People Want to Live, Work, Learn, and Play
  • Tuesday, March 26: Community Workshop on Proposed Objectives – Goal 2: A Healthy Community
  • Wednesday, April 3: Community Workshop on Proposed Objectives – Goal 3: A Robust Economy
  • Thursday, April 11: Community Workshop on Proposed Objectives – Goal 4: Housing Options for Our Diverse Population
  • Tuesday, April 16: Community Workshop on Proposed Objectives – Goal 5: A Balanced Transportation Network

Planning staff will use feedback gathered through the open houses, digital workshop and deep dives to refine and revise the proposed objectives. Staff will then take the revised objectives to the City and County Commissions for further consideration later this year.

The Land Use Element Update Project is an effort to update the local public policy related to land use and transportation in our community. This policy addresses how and where development occurs, how natural resources are preserved and protected, and how places are connected with roads, sidewalks, bike lanes and trails.

The Comprehensive Plan is a dynamic document that can be amended on an annual basis. The Comprehensive Plan’s multiple elements each address certain aspects of the community. Each element is comprised of aspirational goals, measurable objectives and strategic policies.
