Eat What You Grow with Seeds from the Library

Check out seeds and start your spring garden at the Leon County Spring Seed Library Launch on Saturday, February 2 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Northeast Branch Library, 5513 Thomasville Rd.

Meet and learn from Leon County Cooperative Extension master gardeners who will have stations set up to help start your spring garden right, including tomato repotting, raised bed gardening, healthy cooking, and a 4-H activity station. 

Beginning on February 2 and while supplies last, library patrons can check out three seed packets per card per month from all seven LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library locations. Library patrons can also browse and check out materials related to gardening and cooking.

The seed varieties for spring 2019 are Green Dwarf Basil, Contender Beans, Marketmore 76 Cucumbers, Rosa Bianca Eggplant, Emerald Okra, Sugar Ann Snap Pea, Aji Dulce Pepper, Yellow Scallop Squash, Tappy’s Heritage Tomato, and Sugar Baby Watermelon. Each packet contains ten seeds. 

The Seed Library Program began in 2015 as a way to promote noninvasive, heirloom vegetable seed planting in Leon County and to encourage residents to grow their own nutritious food.
