WHERE: At the intersection of Orange Avenue and Monroe Street
Leon County Government will host a highway dedication ceremony in honor of Reverend C.K. Steele on Thursday, January 31 at 2 p.m. at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Monroe Street. The highway designation extends from South Monroe Street to South Blair Stone Road.
Designated by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, the unveiling of the C.K. Steele Memorial Highway marker recognizes Rev. Steele’s status as one of the most influential figures in the Tallahassee Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
The agenda will include comments from Leon County officials, the National Association for the Preservation of African-American History & Culture, Inc., and the Steele family.
