As part of the Club of Honest Citizens series, Leon County and The Village Square will host “Palaces for the People: How to Build a More Equal & United Society” with Dr. Eric Klinenberg on Monday, December 10 at 6 p.m. at The Junction at Monroe, 2011 S. Monroe St.

Citizens are invited to an evening of learning and discussion about how social infrastructure investment is becoming a key part of placemaking and urban policy. The event will highlight Klinenberg's examination of physical spaces and organizations that shape the way people interact as well as the ways such spaces help prevent crime, reduce addiction rates, contribute to economic growth, and even alleviate problems caused by climate change.

Dr. Klinenberg is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University. In his most recent book, Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life, Klinenberg argues that the future of democratic societies rests not simply on shared values but on shared spaces: the libraries, parks, schools, childcare centers, churches, synagogues, bookstores and coffee shops that help us form crucial, sometimes life-saving connections.

Join us for an enlightening evening as Dr. Klinenberg introduces a transformative and powerfully uplifting new idea for health, happiness, safety and healing our divided, unequal society.
