Leon County Emergency Medical Services (LCEMS) has been named the Dick Ferneau Career EMS Service of the Year award winner by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and EMS World.
Award recipients are evaluated on a number of criteria, which include contributions towards advancing in EMS education and training in the agency, innovations in prehospital care and protocol development implemented by the agency, medical community involvement with the agency, public education and more.
“With Leon County's sudden cardiac arrest survival rate far above the national average, our paramedics continue to set the highest standard for emergency medical services everywhere," said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. "And our peers nationwide are taking notice."
The national award recognizes Leon County for its employee safety, wellness, development and community involvement. Programs like paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, well being program, and a collaboration with social services lead to LCEMS being recognized as this year’s winner over other submissions.
"To be recognized by NAEMT, an organization with more than four decades of experience in emergency medicine, demonstrates that our paramedics and EMTs are some of the best in their field," said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. "This distinction highlights our ongoing training and innovations to improve prehospital care and outcomes. And these successes are made possible because of our exemplary leadership team at EMS and our commitment to quality emergency care."
Formed in 1975 and more than 65,000 members strong, NAEMT is the nation’s only organization that represents and serves the professional interests of all EMS practitioners, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders, and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care.
In the 14 years it’s been actively serving citizens, LCEMS has garnered an impressive list of community awards and recognitions, including accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services, EMS Provider of the Year from the Florida Department of Health and recently a Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Plus award from the American Heart Association.
