Check out seeds to start growing your fall vegetable garden at Leon County’s 2018 Fall Seed Library Launch on Saturday, August 4 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Woodville Branch Library, 8000 Old Woodville Rd.

Meet and learn from Master Gardeners and experts from Leon County Cooperative Extension who will have stations set up to help start your fall garden right.  Learn about seeding, composting with worms, cooking your vegetables, pollination, types of gardens, site selection and much more.

Starting August 4, library patrons can check out three seed packets per card per month from any of the seven LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library locations while supplies last. Library patrons can also browse and check out materials on gardening and cooking.

The seed varieties for Fall 2018 are Arugula, Di Cicco Broccoli, Danvers Carrots, Champion Collards, Tronchuda Kale, Flashy Lightning Lettuce, Mizuna Green Mustard Greens, Giant of Italy Parsley, Easter Egg Radishes, and Long Standing Bloomsdale Spinach. Each packet contains 10 seeds.

The Seed Library Program began in 2015 as a way to promote noninvasive, heirloom vegetable seed planting in Leon County and to encourage residents to grow their own nutritious food.
