County Begins Installing Free-to-Use Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

To reduce greenhouse emissions, promote sustainable transportation, and better serve citizens, Leon County has begun installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for public use. The first station installed and ready for use is at the Leon County LeRoy Collins Main Library, 200 W. Park Street.

The electric vehicle charging station can charge all new generation electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. They are safe, easy and reliable, and as simple to use as just plugging in a cord.

Electric Vehicle charging stations help conserve precious natural resources for all citizens. Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles emit far fewer greenhouse gases in their life cycle than gasoline vehicles. Using electric and hybrid vehicles is an effective way to reduce the community's greenhouse gas emissions and help improve local air quality. By providing more opportunities to charge vehicles around town for citizens and visitors alike, Leon County is helping encourage sustainable energy use and practices.

The station is free and open to the public. Real-time availability and map locations can be found using the PlugShare app.

By the end of the summer, Leon County will also install one SemaConnect electric vehicle charging station at the Leon County Eastside Branch Library, 1583 Pedrick Road.
