County Puts Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Front-and-Center

In its continuous focus and commitment to engaging citizens, Leon County will host its next Citizen Engagement Series session on Wednesday, May 23, at 6 p.m., at the Public Safety Complex, 911 Easterwood Drive. The series will give citizens a chance to engage and learn from public safety experts and leaders in Emergency Management. 

Entitled “Prepare Now. When Disaster Strikes, It’s Too Late to Plan” the upcoming session will focus on building community preparedness and resilience to withstand manmade and natural disasters. Leon County will convene nonprofit partners, preparedness experts, Public Safety Officials, and other community members to discuss various topics such as disaster preparedness, emergency communication, and the importance of having a evacuation plan. 

This interactive, hands-on event puts disaster preparedness front-and-center just before the start of hurricane season. There will also be an opportunity to leave with some critical disaster preparedness supplies, such as a weather radio and more. 

Open to all Leon County residents, those interested in the session can register by visiting www.LeonCountyFL.gov/CES. Registration closes Friday, May 18 at 5 p.m. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

As part of Leon County’s commitment to building a #HurricaneStrong community, this event is part of a series throughout May and June to increase community resilience with County programs and services. Held since 2012, Leon County’s recurring national award-winning series engages citizens in new and interesting ways.
