Leon County Welcomes Hazelton Family Home
This week, Leon County handed Deirdre Hazelton and her family the keys to their new home during a Home Replacement Ceremony, marking another successful Leon County home replacement. The State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) assisted Leon County by providing funding for the home.
“Homeownership is a big part of the American dream,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. “Our funding partnership with the State Housing Initiatives Partnership helps make that dream come true for families like the Hazeltons.”
In disrepair, Leon County demolished the former home and replaced it with a new home with features such as new appliances, energy efficient windows, a central HVAC system and an additional bathroom. Leon County also provided the home with a new septic tank system and well.
“I’m proud that our County government supports safe and affordable housing options for citizens,” said Leon County Vice Chairman and District 2 Commissioner Jimbo Jackson. “Homeownership helps build strong communities and neighborhoods, and this beautiful new home is an example of that commitment.”
The Leon County Division of Housing Services helps to provide and maintain safe, sanitary, and affordable homes for low to moderate-income citizens of Leon County through the provision of funds for rehabilitation, home buyer counseling, down-payment assistance, and home owner foreclosure prevention. SHIP provides funds to local governments to preserve affordable homeownership and multifamily housing.
“Our county Housing team, through strong partnerships and dedication, works every day to make moments like these possible,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “We take pride in helping families like the Hazeltons stay in Leon County, the place they call home.”
