Offer Summer Jobs for Youth

Youth between the ages of 14 and 24 can apply now for summer employment

 

Leon County in partnership with CareerSource Capital Region is now accepting applications for the County’s five-week long Summer Youth Training Program. The Summer Youth Training Program is an opportunity for youth to spend the summer working and gaining job experience.

“For our local youth, this employment program is a great way to get a paycheck over the summer and earn firsthand professional experience,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. “Programs like this build on the Board’s commitment to youth employment and workforce development for our citizens.”

Youth can apply for positions across many different County departments from Library Services to Emergency Medical Services, and from Management Information Systems to Parks and Recreation. All positions are 20 to 25 hours per week and pay $8.25 per hour. Summer employment will run from Monday, June 11 through Friday, July 13.

 “By serving alongside the dedicated public servants of Leon County, our summer youth get much more than a paycheck,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “By working alongside our paramedics, librarians, and so many other professionals, the youth serve our community, build necessary skills, make long-lasting connections and enrich the lives of our employees. And our partnership with CareerSource Capital Region makes this opportunity better than ever before.”

Launching this year, Leon County and CareerSource Capital Region partnered to give youth more professional development opportunities through Dynamic Futures, their training program for young adults. CareerSource Capital Region will help youth learn important skills such as goal-setting, budgeting, time management, customer service and so much more.

“CareerSource Capital Region is excited to partner with Leon County through the Summer Youth Training Program,” said CareerSource Capital Region CEO Jim McShane. “Hopefully years from now these youth look back on this experience as one that set the trajectory of their lives and future careers.”

Interested youth should apply now at www.LeonCountyFL.gov/SummerYouth . The application deadline is Monday, March 26 at 5 p.m.
