Event Reminder + Directions / Leon County's 2011 America Recycles Day Celebration / Saturday, Nov. 19, 9a-1p, Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility, 7550 Apalachee Parkway

This message serves as a reminder of Leon County's America Recycles Day Celebration being held tomorrow, Saturday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility, 7550 Apalachee Parkway (US-27 S).

The Leon County Solid Waste Management Division, Leon County Recycling, and partners have been very busy organizing a terrific day for the community.

Saturday will begin with a pre-event 1-mile recycling run (8 a.m.) and a 5K Trash Dash (8:30 a.m.) through parts of the Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility.  Proceeds from the race will benefit Sustainable Tallahassee. Also, take the opportunity to tour the Solid Waste Management Facility and see all that's new.  There will be walking tours and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus tours, provided by Leon County Schools.

Some of Saturday's activities

> The Sunglass Hut will be on site collecting sunglasses and prescription glasses for OneSight charity.

> The Flip Flop Shop  will collect gently used shoes.

> Recycle4Haiti is collecting aluminum cans.

> The community can bring books to swap at the Book Swap table hosted by the Friends of the Library.

> Take the recycling pledge. When residents take the pledge, they can then sign their name on one of Leon County's green, hook-lift bins using re-blended paint from the Leon County Hazardous Waste Center.

> Children of all ages can make a recycled craft, play recycling games, listen to stories in the children's area, and get their face painted.

> Residents can bring old, important documents for safe and secure, FREE shredding from Gilmore Services.

> Businesses and residents can bring bulky, white styrofoam out for the RecycleTech demonstration.

> Live music will be provided from Leon High School's Pan Groove, a steel drum ensemble.

> Free hot dogs, drinks and popcorn. Bring your own water bottle for free water refills.

> Visit with and talk to recycling vendors.

> Purchase a compost bin ($45) or rain barrel ($55) at the Recycling Building.

> Meet Leon County's Rhonda Renee Recycles and the Bag Monster.
