Leon County Launches Animal Abuser Registry

This month, Leon County launched its Animal Abuser Registry to address animal abuse and raise public awareness of neglect. The Animal Abuser Registry is an online portal that displays individuals 18 years or older who reside within the city and county limits and have been convicted of certain felony and misdemeanor animal abuse offenses.

The registry will increase public awareness of animal crimes and serve as an additional resource to help citizens in the decision making process in the sale or adoption of animals.

Leon County is one of only 20 counties in Florida to implement an animal abuser registry. The Animal Abuser Registry will contain the convicted abuser’s full name, address, date of birth, the offense(s), date of conviction, date the listing will expire and photograph. The registry can be accessed at www.LeonCountyFL.gov/AnimalAbuse.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity and people such as animal neglect, insufficient food, improper tethering, untreated injuries or abandonment, to Leon County Animal Control at (850) 606-5400.
