Commissioner Desloge Discusses Tax Reform at White House

Today, Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge will participate in the State and Local Government Tax-Reform and Economic Competitiveness Discussion, hosted by the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

The event will be held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House Complex. Desloge and other local leaders will engage in dialogue with Senior White House staff from the National Economic Council to discuss pending federal tax reform packages in the U.S. House and Senate.

“Federal tax reform can have a significant effect on how state and local governments operate,” said Leon County Commissioner and Immediate Past President of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Bryan Desloge. “My time at the White House will be spent discussing the critical importance of the Administration’s policies when it comes to tax reform and its potential impact on Leon County and other local governments.”

The tax reform proposals in the House and Senate would eliminate the state and local tax (SALT) deduction and other vital deductions and credits that would impact counties and the services they provide to citizens. More than 44 million households in all 50 states claim the state and local tax deduction each year. It prevents double taxation of Americans by allowing taxpayers to claim a deduction for the state and local taxes they have already paid from their incomes, and it helps to support vital local public services and investments essential to every resident, including infrastructure, public safety and education.

As Immediate Past President, Desloge serves on the NACo Executive Committee and represents more than 3,000 countries across the nation.
