With recovery efforts well underway following Hurricane Irma, this will be the last Daily Brief for this event. Leon County Emergency Management and many community partners are making rapid progress in returning our community to normal, but we are still working hard to meet every community need and there is still work to be done. Leon County remains fully committed to ensuring a quick and complete recovery.

Important Updates

• Curfew:
• • Upon the advice of law enforcement and the progress of utility restoration efforts, Leon County will not extend the curfew for Tuesday, September 12 or Wednesday, September 13. There is no curfew in place at this time. 

• Shelter Information:
• Leon County is now operating two host shelters for those that have evacuated from across Florida. The following shelters will be open as host shelters this afternoon:
• Northwoods Baptist Church, 3762 Capital Circle NW
• Huntington Oaks, 3840 N Monroe St (next to the Leon County Lake Jackson Library)
• All other shelters will be closed by noon today, September 12.
• The special needs shelter at Florida High will be closed today as well.
• Damage Assessments
• Leon County staff and volunteers have begun conducting preliminary damage assessments.

• Power Outages
• City of Tallahassee Utilities reported 95% of utility customers now have power.

• Road Closures
• Crews are still working to clear roads throughout the County due to downed trees.

• Solid Waste Services
• Regular trash and recycling pickup will resume on Wednesday, September 13, with those whose trash pick-up date was Monday, September 11. Yard debris will not be picked up by Waste Pro.
• Yard debris will be picked up by a debris removal contractor and it may not be the same day as regular pick up.
• Rural Waste Service Centers will continue normal hours of operation beginning Wednesday, September 13.
• Citizens may drop off yard debris at the Solid Waste Facility beginning, Wednesday, September 13 during normal operating hours, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5pm.
• For bulky item pick up (items too big for garbage):
• Storm related bulky items will be picked up by a contractor. There is no need to call to request items to be picked up.
• For regular bulky item pick-up, call (850) 606-1899 to make a request.
• Marpan Recylcing remains closed.
• Comfort Station
• To help recover from Irma, Leon County opened the downtown Main Library, 200 W. Park Ave, as a comfort station from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m today (Tuesday, September 12).
• In coordination with local area agencies, the comfort station offers a place to cool off, assistance and information on storm recovery efforts, charging stations for electronic devices, light snacks and refreshments, public access to computers and Wi-Fi, and more.
• The City of Tallahassee has opened similar comfort stations, which will be listed on the City’s website (www.talgov.com/Irma). Tallahassee Fire Stations will also be giving out water.
• Current closures
• Leon County offices, parks, and branch libraries will reopen Wednesday, September 13.
• State of Florida offices are closed through Tuesday, September 12. 
• Leon County Schools closed Tuesday, September 12.
• Wednesday, September 13, 2017 — NORMAL WORKDAY FOR STAFF. All teachers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and district staff should report to work. In those instances where someone is unable to make it in, they must contact their supervisor.
• Thursday, September 14, 2017 — ALL STUDENTS RETURN. LCS is working hard to get back to normalcy. LCS will be ready, prepared and excited to welcome all of our students back to school on Thursday. If students cannot make it back, absences will be excused. Please work with your school site to follow the standard procedures. 
• Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee Community College will be closed through Friday, September 15.

• Visit the Leon County Emergency Information Portal - Hosting the same information as the Citizens Connect app, the Emergency Information Portal can be accessed on a desktop or a mobile browser by visiting www.LeonCountyFL.gov/EI .
• Listen to 88.9 WFSU-FM - Citizens can tune in to 88.9 FM for the most up-to-date information from local public safety officials. Featuring to-the-minute reporting, WFSU, Leon County and the City of Tallahassee remain committed to getting information out on the radio as soon as possible.
• Call Big Bend 2-1-1 - If you need community information, services and support any day of the year, Big Bend 2-1-1 is reachable by dialing either 2-1-1 or (850) 617-6333.
• Call (850) 606-3700 with questions - Leon County Emergency Management staff is available to answer questions from what you should prepare, act and recover.

• Insurance Helpline - The Florida Department of Financial Services offers a toll-free Insurance Consumer Helpline to assist Florida's insurance consumers. Insurance Specialists are available to answer questions or concerns regarding insurance coverage and advocate on a consumer's behalf to resolve a dispute with an insurance company. To receive assistance, call 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (693-5236) toll-free, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Price Gouging - During a state of emergency, it is unlawful to sell or lease certain commodities for an amount that grossly exceeds the average price. To report price gouging, call 1-866-966-7226.

Tallahassee Leon County Office of Economic Vitality and Domi Station have partnered to ensure businesses without power have a comfortable place to get back online - free of charge! Thanks to Catalina Cafe, coffee and refreshments are also provided. Businesses are welcome to work at Domi until their physical location has received power. Visit their facility at 914 Railroad Ave. for air conditioning, wifi, a hot cup of coffee, and refreshments while ensuring your clients receive a seamless transition post-Irma.
