Leon County Hosts Press the Chest 2017

Free Educational Community-Wide CPR Training Event

Leon County invites you to #GetTrained at the seventh annual Press the Chest – a community-wide CPR training event – on Saturday, June 17, at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St., from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m.

Press the Chest  is an annual event that focuses on the importance of providing the community with the skills, knowledge and confidence to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).  County events like Press the Chest contribute to Leon County’s cardiac survival rate of 33%, which far exceeds the national average of 7%. Since 2010, Leon County has trained over 7,000 people with hands-on instruction on how to do CPR correctly. Like the past six years, highly credentialed  Leon County Emergency Medical Services personnel will teach the recommendations made by the American Heart Association These recommendations include C-A-B (Compressions-Airway-Breathing) along with the new emphasis on “Hands-Only CPR.” Participants will also be taught how to use Automated External Defibrillators. This is not a certification event.

Each participant of Press the Chest CPR 2017 will receive an American Heart Association personal “CPR Anytime” kit containing a CPR manikin, DVD, and educational materials. The kits are for participants to train family and friends on CPR. The event is hosted in collaboration with the FSU First Responders program, FAMU Student Health Services, Southeastern School of Health Sciences, Florida Department of Health, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Capital Regional Medical Center, Capital Health Plan, Premier Health and Fitness, Brian Barnard Flooring America, and Hopping Green and Sams.
