Leon County Accepting Tourism Grant Applications for Signature, Special & Sports Events
Grant Cycle Begins May 1
In its ongoing efforts of promoting tourism and financially supporting events that bring visitors to the area, the Leon County Division of Tourism Development, also known as Visit Tallahassee, opens the application process for its 2017-18 Signature, Special and Sports Events Grants on May 1.

Eligible events must take place between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018 and have the potential to – or history of – bringing visitors to the area who use local hotels or short-term lodging facilities in Leon County. Funding considerations also include preference for events held during traditionally low occupancy periods, number of visitors, and the scope and duration of the event.

Leon County uses an online grant application that simplifies the process for applicants. Two workshops are being held to further assist applicants and provide additional information about the County’s grants programs. The workshops will take place at the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library, 200 W. Park Avenue, on Wednesday, May 10 and Wednesday, June 14 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Applications are due by Monday, August 7, 2017.

The Tourist Development Council (TDC) Grant Review Committee reviews and evaluates applications and submits recommendations to the TDC for approval. The grant program for sports events is administered through the TDC by the Tallahassee Sports Council.
