Leon County Names Tom Mihalich Volunteer Firefighter of the Year
Ceremony Recognizes Public Service of County’s Volunteer Fighters

 

At today’s 19th Annual Leon County Fire Truck Roundup Leon County presented the 2016 Jack Harron Leon County Volunteer Firefighter of the Year to Tom Mihalich of the Woodville Volunteer Fire Department.

A recent recruit, Tom Mihalich joined the Woodville Volunteer Fire Department in August 2015. Since that time he has been instrumental in the building of a new firefighting vehicle. Through his service and dedication to the department, Mihalich has maintained the department’s oldest fire truck and has made it his project to improve the vehicle and other equipment with cost effective upgrades.

Mihalich has proven himself to be a valuable member of the department through his leadership, and by promoting the department throughout the community and working with local businesses to acquire donated goods and services.

Created in 1998 by VolunteerLEON, Leon County’s division of Volunteer Services, the 2016 Jack Harron Leon County Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award is sponsored by Earl Bacon Insurance Agency. The volunteer firefighters have renamed this prestigious award after the former Miccosukee Fire Chief who lost a battle with cancer. Harron served 17 years as the fire chief and was instrumental in the creation of this annual event, which highlights the service and dedication of the men and women who protect life and property of Leon County’s citizens.
