Today, Leon County Commissioner Nick Maddox was overwhelmingly elected Second Vice President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) at the association’s 2016 Annual Conference and Educational Exposition in Orlando.

“I am humbled to be elected by my fellow commissioners to serve as a leader of the association that is recognized as the voice for Florida’s counties,” said Maddox. “The Florida Association of Counties has played a vital role in my development as a county commissioner. The association has granted me the opportunity to build relationships and exchange innovative ideas with fellow county commissioners from around the state, strengthening my ability to serve the citizens of Leon County.”

Maddox has served as an At-Large Commissioner for Leon County since November 2010. Two years later, he was unanimously elected to serve as Chairman of the Leon County Board of County Commissioners. In addition to serving in county government, Maddox was appointed to the FAC Board of Directors in 2015. During the FAC Annual Conference, Maddox was also recognized as a 2016 graduate of the County Commissioners Voluntary Certification (CCC) Program.

“Commissioner Maddox is committed to being a true leader on both the county and state levels,” said FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley. “His dedication to the development of the association and unification of his fellow commissioners will achieve our collective priorities and maximize the outreach of our association.”

Maddox will serve as Second Vice President for one year, then serve one more year as First Vice President before ascending to President-Elect in 2018. In 2019, he will then serve as FAC’s President.

“We are honored to once again have a member of our County Commission elected to our state association,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. “With Commissioner Maddox at the helm, I am confident that he will be a champion for the 67 counties and the nearly 20 million citizens they represent in the state of Florida
