Input Sought on Community-Wide Economic Development Strategic Plan
The Tallahassee/Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) is hosting its second Economic Development Strategic Plan listening and networking sessions on Friday, June 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Domi Station, 914 Railroad Avenue. This is an opportunity for all entrepreneurs and startup businesses to get involved in the strategic planning process that will define success for economic development in Tallahassee/Leon County.
The session will be hosted at Domi Station, the community’s business incubator for startups, entrepreneurs, and innovation. Since opening its doors two years ago, Domi Station has gone from a newly renovated space with fresh paint to a thriving startup hub with over 125 members and 35 companies.
"We're eager to hear what all our entreprenuers and startups have to say as we plan our community's future economic success," said Ben Pingree, Director of Tallahassee / Leon County Planning, Land Management, and Community Enhancement (PLACE) . "For the County and City Commissions, hearing from the groups that make our complex economic ecosystem is key. And we've never been in a better place to listen, engage, and develop the best plan possible."
The upcoming sessions will engage stakeholders from across the community, such as local businesses, institutions of higher education, and other public and private partners. Key areas of focus will be workforce development, targeted industry sections, commercialization, business incubation, minority women and small business expansion, entrepreneurial activity, and business expansion, recruitment and retention.
Once developed, the economic development strategic plan will be presented for approval to the County and City Commissions that make up the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency. Citizen input at each of the listening and networking sessions is critical to help shape the future of the community’s economic development efforts.
