Leon County Tourism Development Opens Second Grant Cycle
Sports Tourism Continues to be a Team Effort in the Capital County

Leon County Government is currently accepting applications for the second grant cycle from organizations hosting sporting events taking place March 5 through September 30, 2016.

Events that qualify must attract overnight visitors that use hotel and motel rooms in Tallahassee-Leon County. Funding considerations also include preference for events held during traditionally low occupancy periods, number of out-of-town visitors and the scope and duration of the event.

This year, the first cycle of granted events included 55 sporting events with an anticipated 14,197 room nights and 36,244 visitors, generating an estimated $11.8 million economic impact.

Leon County Government allocates tourist tax funds from its annual budget to help local groups and/or organizations host events that either have demonstrated a history of or the potential for drawing out-of-town visitors to the area.

The County’s online grant application can be accessed at, www.VisitTallahassee.com/industry/sports-tourism/ . The application deadline is February 22.
