WHO: Leon County
WHAT: Fall Launch of the Leon County Seed Library Program
WHEN: Saturday, August 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE: Lake Jackson Community Center, 3840 N. Monroe St.
To launch the fall seed library program, Leon County invites the community to attend a kickoff event on Saturday, August 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake Jackson Community Center, 3840 N. Monroe St.
The kickoff event will feature experts from Leon County Cooperative Extension, who will teach attendees about starting their own garden, harvesting produce, protecting plants from the cold, preparing delicious seasonal recipes, composting and recycling, and vermiculture (using worms to compost). Library patrons can also browse and select books and DVDs to check out on gardening and cooking.
But, patrons do not need to attend the event to check out seeds. In fact, all seven LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library locations are participating in the Leon County Seed Program, which will offer fall varieties of seeds for the current planting season. Seeds will be available for check out at all library locations beginning Saturday, August 8, while supplies last.
The fall program of the Leon County Seed Library builds on the success of the first launch earlier this year when more than 10,000 seed packets were checked out in a matter of days.
For more information about the seed library, contact the Leon County Public Library System at (850) 606-2665. For questions about growing plants, call the Leon County Extension Office at (850) 606-5200.
