Past President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Desloge poised to lead National Association of Counties (NACo) in 2016-17
Leon County District 4 Commissioner Bryan Desloge was elected as vice president of the National Association of Counties (NACo) during the 80th Annual Conference and Exposition, which was held July 10-13, in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte), N.C.
Desloge will serve as vice president for a year before taking over as president of the association in July 2016.
“NACo plays a vital and constructive role in addressing the challenges communities face nationwide,” said Desloge. “I look forward to continuing to represent Florida on a national level and advancing my commitment to civility, diversity and opportunity with our local communities.”
Desloge has served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners for nine years and was chairman from 2008 through 2009. After his appointment to the NACo Board of Directors in 2012, he has subsequently served on its Financial Services Corporation Advisory Committee, Membership Committee, Health Steering Committee and as Vice Chair of the Behavioral Health Subcommittee. Desloge is also a 2007 graduate of NACo’s County Leadership Institute, and served as President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) in 2012 and 2013.
Along with his role in Leon County Government, Desloge has been active with and serves on several boards, including the executive board of Florida Blood Services and past board member of Florida State School of Business Board of Governors. In 2012, he was appointed by Florida Governor Scott as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of the Big Bend Region. Desloge is also a 1998 graduate of Leadership Florida and a 1991 graduate of Leadership Tallahassee.
“Commissioner Desloge is a dedicated advocate for local communities and for home rule,” said FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley. “His election as Vice President of NACo is a win for all of Florida and will spotlight our communities and the issues we face on a national level.”
Along with electing officers, NACo’s Annual Conference provides county officials with an opportunity to vote on NACo’s policies related to federal legislation and regulation; network with colleagues; and, learn about issues impacting counties as well as the innovative programs counties across the country are establishing.
