CONA, County, City Recognize Winning Neighborhoods and Neighbors at Annual Awards

 

The 2015 Annual Neighborhood Awards reception, hosted by the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), Leon County and the City of Tallahassee, honored winning neighborhoods and neighbors Monday evening at the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs (GFWC) of Tallahassee in Historic Los Robles. This year’s winning neighborhoods and neighbors were announced by Leon County Commission Chairman Mary Ann Lindley and City of Tallahassee Commissioner Curtis Richardson.

Seven winners from Leon County and the City of Tallahassee were named. Winners in the Large Neighborhood of the Year category (more than 200 homes) were Southwood Residential Community for City of Tallahassee and Killearn Homes Association for Leon County. Winners in the Small Neighborhood of the Year category (200 or fewer homes) were Los Robles Neighborhood Association for City of Tallahassee and Carolina Oaks for Leon County. The winner of the Leon County Unincorporated Neighborhood of the Year (outside the city limits) was Centerville Conservation Community. Winners of the Neighbor of the Year category were Debbie Floyd of Lafayette Oaks Homes Association for Leon County and Cornelius Jones of Florida A. and M. Neighborhood Association for the City of Tallahassee.

Annually, area neighborhoods are encouraged to apply for the seven respective categories. Winning neighborhoods receive a sign to display at their entrance and bragging rights as a Neighborhood of the Year.

“Each year, we look for neighborhoods that exemplify community engagement,” CONA President Leroy Peck said. “The neighborhoods chosen for 2015 are the best of the best and do just that in numerous ways.”

In addition, CONA presented its annual Public Servant of the Year Award to the Big Bend Chapter of the Florida Police Benevolent Association (P.B.A.) and the 2015 Business Neighbor of the Year Award to Kingdom First Realty.
